LNER A1 Class No 2547 Doncaster at Kings Cross in 1925. Built at doncaster Works the previous year it like many other A1's were named after racehorses ( Doncaster was the 1873 Derby winner ) Rebuilt to an A3 spec in May 1946 and at the same time received the number 48 under Thompson's renumbering scheme. Under BR ownership it became 60048 and was allocated to various depots throughout its life before withdrawal and scrapping at its birthplace 19 September 1963. The area behind the loco has now been turned into a leisure and eating place named Coal Drop Yard. Simon Lathlane Collection
