SRL No 16 A3 Class No 2751 at Wood Green in 1933.

LNER Gresley A3 Class 4-6-2 No 2751 'Humorist' raises the echoes on the approach to Wood Green station where the eight miles of 1-200 climb begins. This loco was used by the LNER on smoke drifting experiments throughout the 1930's.Here we see 2751 with a cut-a-way smokebox top and stove pipe chimney with wind vanes. No 2751 was in this formation in March 1933 and the experiment successful, however no further engines were dealt with in the same manner and 2751 reverted back to a normal smokebox front by January 1934. By the mid 1950's now No 60097 the A3 was north of the border at Haymarket and then St Margarets. She was withdrawn from the latter in August 1963.
