LNER Gresley A3 Class 4-6-2 No 2559 'The Tetrarch' is seen on shed at York after the Luftwaffe attacked the city on the night of 29 April 1942. Sadly one hundred and nine people died during the raid with over two hundred injured. On shed that night was over fifty locomotives and A4 Class No 4469 'Sir Ralph Wedgwood' was seriously damaged and later scrapped. No 2559 had only just been rebuilt to an A3 Class from an A1 Class in January 1942. In 1948 it became No 60060 under BR ownership. From 1939 until withdrawn in 1963 it was always allocated to north-east sheds. Withdrawn from 52A Gateshead in September 1963.
